Newsletter - School Updates 28.04.2023

28th April 2023

Dear Parents and Carers of St George’s,

I just wanted to update you all on the current situation re: the building and refurbishment work at St George’s and share with you some of the plans for the summer and the new academic year.

Windows

As you know, the windows were replaced in every classroom in the main school over the Easter Holiday and they look amazing. They have made such a difference to the overall look of the building from inside and, even better, we can now open and close every window with ease which enables us to let in some much-needed fresh air.

Mobile Refurbishment

We have been liaising with the contractors who will be remodelling and repurposing our mobile unit and changing it into our new Early Years and main reception office area.  The far room in the mobile will be our new Early Years classroom; the middle section of the mobile will be a dining room/messy play area; and the section nearest to the main school building will be our new reception and office space where we will meet with parents/carers and welcome visitors to our school.

New Heating System

We are having our old Victorian heating system taken out and this is going to be replaced with a new, modern convector heating system. This will free up much needed floor space and storage and will give us far more flexibility with the rooms and furniture.

The building is looking so much smarter, and we are really working hard together to improve the whole environment for our children – they deserve nothing but the best!

New School Uniform

We have been working hard on improving and developing both the exterior and interior of the school building and grounds. Part of this has been developing a strong theme and colour scheme and unique identity bringing together our school’s history and some elements of the school’s façade and the surrounding environment.  As part of our school developments at St George’s, which includes our new school logo design, we have consulted widely across the school, including staff and children in the decision-making process, and we have decided to change our school jumper colour to bottle green and our school polo t-shirt to white. We are also simplifying our school PE kit to a plain white t-shirt and plain black or navy shorts, leggings, or jogging bottoms. All other uniform items are staying the same with the exception of the school dress/playsuit which we are changing to green gingham. We want all of our children from Nursery through to Year 6 in the same colour uniform.

Please visit our school website for images and more information.

Support for Families

To help our families at St George’s with new uniform costs, we will be providing each child from Reception to Year 6 with a free uniform starter pack which will consist of a brand-new school jumper/cardigan and a brand-new polo shirt – both items will have the new school logo design on them. These will be supplied by Top Class Uniforms in Blakelaw. If any parents/carers need any further support, please do not hesitate to contact school to discuss.

We will be sharing an order form via Teachers2Parents so that families can order the free uniform items at the right sizes for their child/children ready for September 2023.

If families would like to order additional new school uniform, this can be ordered in person, over the phone or online at https://www.tcugroup.co.uk/schools/

To help school do this, we will be hosting a range of fundraising and community events throughout the summer term for everyone to enjoy and to donate and contribute wherever, whatever and whenever they can. Please see our Dates for your Diary at your earliest convenience to see the range of fundraising events on offer.

St. George's have also registered with Easyfundraising and you could help us to raise funds for the school at no extra cost to yourself. When you shop online, with over 7,000 of your favourite brands, including John Lewis & Partners, Amazon, eBay, Just Eat, and many others, you will raise FREE monetary donations for our school.

(We are aware that when you click onto our page, it says 'Fenham', we don't know why this is, and are trying to change it, but it is definitely our school, you will see the school logo!)

If you have any questions, please contact our school office.

We will be collecting any old items of uniform to donate to local charities.

Have a wonderful May Bank Holiday with your families and friends.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best wishes,
