Autumn 1 2023

Week beginning 16th October

Early Years and Year 1 all took part in their assemblies this week. Year 1s Gospel Values Assembly was all about Kindness. Early Years Buddy Assembly with Year 6 was performed in front of the whole school and for our parents. They all read, sang and smiled perfectly! Well done everyone!

In RE, Year 1 and Reception role played and retold the story of Jesus and the children, and Nursery talked about belonging to their families.

We all enjoyed our end of half term disco – dancing in our party outfits!

Week Beginning 9th October 2023

This week in Early Years / Year 1, we all made wanted posters to help look out for the Big Bad Wolf. We had some pretty scary pictures and descriptions!

In our RE lessons, Reception and Year 1 talked about the different groups we belong to: family, school, Rainbows, swimming, dancing, gymnastics, football, karate. We talked about what we do in the group and how belonging to a group makes us feel. We designed our own badges to represent the group we enjoy the most! Nursery role played welcoming new friends into our class and made a welcome display.

On World Mental Health Day, we talked about our feelings, how it is ok to feel all kinds of emotions and to ask for help if we feel too overwhelmed. We took part in some mindful meditation dancing and coloured in some mindfulness pictures.

Week beginning 2nd October 2023

In Early Years / Year 1 this week, we have continued reading The Three Little Pigs. Early Years have made story puppets and masks and retold the story. We have all discussed the materials the Three Little Pigs used to build their houses and looked at buildings and structures around us in Newcastle, and discovered which materials they were made of. From this, Year 1 have been designing and creating their own freestanding structures. In RE, we compared our family and home life with Jesus’s family and home life. Reception have been learning different vocabulary to use around length and weight. Nursery have been singing some new Nursery Rhymes and have made some spider web pictures for Little Miss Muffet.

Week beginning 25th September 2023

In Early Years / Year 1, our story theme this fortnight is The Three Little Pigs. We have all built structures using different construction materials. Reception have sequenced the story using pictures, and Year 1 have written captions for their sequenced pictures. Nursery have built houses and become the Big Bad Wolf “I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down!” Reception have been sorting objects in Maths lessons, while Year 1 have been describing different varieties of animals, in Science. Another fabulous, hardworking week from everyone!

Week beginning 18th September 2023

In RE in Year 1 and Reception, we have talked about how our families love us and how they show us love. Nursery have been playing name games to help us to identify our names and learn each other’s.

In Reception, we started our daily phonics lessons, learning letters and sounds - this week we looked at s, a, t, p. We have also played games around numbers 1 – 5.

In Science, Year 1 have looked at and identified animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.

We have all enjoyed retelling part of the Oliver Twist story, getting into the characters of Oliver and Mr Bumble. We also prepared, cooked and tasted some porridge, pretending it was gruel and asking “Please sir, can I have some more?”

We have loved looking at photographs of different artifacts from the Victorian Times. We tried to guess what the items were used for and compared them to what we use now. The chamber pot and washing board were very surprising!!

We have all settled into our Early Years and Year 1 routine beautifully!

We enjoyed our Oliver Twist day on Monday. We dressed up as Victorian's, made brushes to sweep the chimneys, drew with chalks and of course watching the performance! We have all loved Hot Seating as different characters from the story - particularly Oliver, Nancy and Fagan!

In RE, we have all explored ourselves and our families. Nursery have been playing name games while Reception and Year 1 have shared all about their own families.

Year 1 have loved beginning their Science lesson journey - this week we identified different varieties of animals, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Year 1 have also been looking at 'teen' numbers, and 1 more and 1 less in Maths lessons.
