January Newsletter

9th January 2024

Dear Parents and Carers of St George’s,

Happy New Year and a huge welcome back to all of our children. They’ve all had a brilliant first day back and have loved telling us all about their holidays and celebrations over the festive period. We are all looking forward to a very busy spring term and have lots of exciting activities and events planned for the children. Please refer to the Dates for your Diary which will be shared later this week, for more information.

Reception Class September 2024

The closing date for Reception Class applications for September 2024 is Monday 15 January. Please ensure you have applied for a place for your child if they were born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020.

Breakfast Club and After School Club – Wraparound Care

We are moving the venue for our Breakfast Club and After School Club into the mobile. This is to help ease drop off and collection for our parents and carers. From Monday 15 January, please drop children off for Breakfast Club and collect children from After School Club using the new Reception area in the mobile.

School Uniform – Hairstyles

Please ensure you are supporting your child to adhere to our full School Uniform Policy which includes the following re: hairstyles:

‘The school reserves the right to make a judgement on the suitability of pupils’ hair and appearance.

Extreme hairstyles, such as mohawks, tramlines and patterned or brightly coloured hair, are unacceptable.

Pupils with long hair must ensure that this does not impede their vision, cover their face or provide a health and safety risk.  Long hair must be tied up.

Bandana style headbands and flowers/bows or excessive hair accessories are not to be worn; however, plain hair clips or bands are acceptable.

Hair extensions are not permitted.

Some religions and beliefs may require their members to wear their hair in a particular style. The school does not discriminate against any religion or belief and will endeavour to allow religious requirements to be met where possible, whilst weighing up the needs and rights of individual pupils against the cohesion and health and safety concerns of the entire school community.  Any request by a parent or pupil for a particular hairstyle to be worn, or any request for a change to the uniform policy, shall be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Headteacher and Local Governing Committee.’

 School Building and Refurbishment

The school building work is progressing nicely. We now have our new Y1/Y2 classroom ready and work has begun in our new Y3/Y4 classroom.

The Cloud of H (aka Jamie Henderson) has almost completed all of the artwork in our new library which I know many parents and carers have been watching develop over the last couple of months. The children are so excited about the new library and can’t wait to be using it fully to develop and promote their love of reading.

Mrs Douglass is putting together a ‘before and after’ presentation of the building and refurbishment works which have been undertaken at St George’s since September 2022. We’ll let you know when it’s finished and share it widely to celebrate.

Attendance and Punctuality

Please continue to work with school to ensure your child attends school regularly and on time. If your child is struggling to come into school or you have any other concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Wraparound Provision

Please continue to follow school procedures for booking children into our After School Club provision. This ensures school have enough staff and resources available to run the club safely.

Parking Around School

Parking around all schools is restricted. Please do not park on any of the yellow lines at the main entrance to the school on Bell’s Close. Pavement space for pedestrians at the gates is very limited.

Thank you for your continued support. If you do have any concerns or there is anything we can support you with, please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office on 0191 2675677 or via email office@stgcps.org or please come and catch us on the yard for a chat.
