March Newsletter

31st March 2023

Dear Parents and Carers of St George’s,

Free School Meal (FSM) Vouchers for Easter

Any children who are entitled to a Free School Meal will receive a FSM voucher for £30.00 per child to cover a lunch for each week day of the two week Easter Holiday. These will be shared via text message/email before we break up for Easter on 31st March.

Window Refurbishment

As part of our school refurbishment, and with huge thanks to our Trust, the old windows which are still in situ in some parts of the school, are being replaced over the Easter Holidays. This is fantastic news and will really help give the exterior and interior of the building a facelift. Many of the old windows are in the classrooms where the children are so they will see a huge difference when they return after the holiday!

School Uniform

As part of our school improvement and development programme we are currently considering a change in our school uniform for September 2023 which includes the colour of the jumper and the t-shirt and a simpler version of our PE kit. We will share the full details of these changes after Easter so please do not buy any items for the new academic year until the changes have been confirmed which we will do as soon as possible. Thank you.

Lemington Food Bank and Clothes Bar

Lemington Food Bank and Clothes Bar provide an invaluable service for our community. Please donate any spare items you have. They are currently prioritising: children’s clothes, tinned fruit, instant mash, baby milk and formula and nappies (sizes 4 and larger). Both can be found located in Lemington Methodist Church, 1 Algernon Road, Lemington, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE15 8DT. Thank you.

School Attendance and Punctuality

This is a polite reminder for parents and carers to please follow our school attendance and punctuality procedures.

If your child is going to be absent from school, the expectation is that parents/carers contact school before 9.30am on the first day of absence to let school know your child won’t be in and the reason for their absence. It is really important that you contact school and keep us well informed and up to date about your child’s illness and possible return date to school.

We fully understand that sometimes things don’t go according to plan during the morning routine when getting children ready and getting them to school on time. However, we have noticed that some of our families are really struggling to get their children to school on time and this is happening on a regular basis. We would really like to support our families as much as we can with this, so after Easter we will be monitoring lateness in line with our attendance so that we can offer more timely and effective support.

Also, we are really pleased to share that St. George’s now has access to a School Attendance Officer who is able to support our school and any of our families whose child’s attendance is below satisfactory or who are struggling to get their children to school on time.
