Homework Expectations in Class 5-6

Friday 21st April 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a fantastic start to this term! The children have settled back into their daily routines and are enjoying learning and revising together. We have been developing our reading, spelling and maths skills and would like to share our homework expectations for Class 5-6.

From Monday 24th April 2023, children in Class 5-6 will bring home several practice books to support their learning. Current key learning will be shared in the front of the books and children will record their weekly challenge (test) in the back of the book. This will support your awareness of your child’s progress. Specific information is shared in the table below.

To support your child’s reading development, their Reading Eggs login details are shared in their reading record book. Your child’s log in details is also attached to this letter. We know how busy everyday life can be but please support your child to complete their homework. Each week, a Reading Egg certificate is awarded to the child who is making the most progress in Year 5 and in Year 6. How ‘eggciting!’

Reading Books & Records

Reading books and reading records will travel daily between home and school. Many pupils read chapter books so they may not change their books each week. Parents and Carers are expected to hear their child read regularly and write a positive comment in their record. Children can also write their own. As children access a wide range of text types and lengths, there will be no set day to change books and instead will be as and when.
